Winless UCLA begins Pac-12 play against high-powered Washington State offense

The winless UCLA football team (0-3) hasn’t shown consistency over the first three weeks of the season, but will need to find it in order to compete in their Pac-12 opener against coach Mike Leach and the Washington State Cougars (3-0) on the road Saturday. The offense will go as far as quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson takes it, but the sophomore will need to be efficient and make smart plays to keep his team in the game against WSU quarterback Anthony Gordon, who leads the nation in passing yard and the Cougars’ offense that leads the Pac-12. The Cougars also enter the conference opener with the best pass defense in the Pac-12, allowing just 162.7 yards per game, and could cause some trouble for Thompson-Robinson and send him running. UCLA had its first 100 -yard rushing game, with 110 as a team in last week’s 48-14 loss to Oklahoma. Runnng back Demetric Felton had a team-high 65 yards, with 42 coming on one carry.
